J.M. Giordano - On-line Media in Baltimore
The death of analog publications is imminent. I would like to discuss the future of magazines on-line as it applies to local publications. The failure to adapt to an on-line model or successfully integrate their physical content or reach out to a younger demographic will be the death of them. It's steam vs. sail, really. Sure sailboats are still around but their little more than a hobby and no longer are the deliverers of goods. At Gutter, we feel that on-demand publishing, better use of available technology and lower ad costs (because you are no longer dealing with finite space) and more diverse staff are the keys to a successful on-line publication. If chosen we will have a very special announcement at the event (Mike you can e-mail me for more information, but we're not going public with it yet) and will launch our summer issue at Ignite so people can look at the new issue at the event.
