Julie E. Gabrielli, NCARB, LEED - The Silver (Green) Lining
Baltimore is a city of great contrasts, a place in transition. We are emerging from a fossil-fuel-powered past that exploited nature, exploited people, and threw both away when they had served their purpose. Today, our city is becoming a place where everyone matters and everyone’s work is needed. All over, we can see people turning to abundant local resources of creativity, resourcefulness, reverence and fun, to rebuild a city that values all life.
Yesterday’s news: crime, grime, addiction, unemployment, vacant houses, pollution.
Today’s news and tomorrow’s vision: socially-conscious business, health and wellness, local economy, organic farms, creative schools, clean energy, green jobs.
A registered architect since 1990, Julie Gabrielli has been practicing for 20 years. Since 1998, sustainable design has been her specialty, and from 2002 until September 2005, she was a founding principal of TerraLogos eco architecture, PC.
A Baltimore resident for over 18 years, Julie currently serves on the boards of the Chesapeake Sustainable Business Alliance, the Community Conferencing Center, and Experiential Environmental Education Inc, the umbrella for the Green School of Baltimore, a charter K – 5 school. She co-chaired the Built Environment Working Group for the Baltimore Sustainability Plan. She is a founding member of the Baltimore Bioneers Conference Committee, which debuted in 2007. Julie has also written on sustainable issues for Urbanite and Ecological Home Ideas magazines. She frequently shares her enthusiasm for sustainable design in lectures, conferences, and training workshops. She also founded GOforChange, a website that helps connect the dots in Baltimore between the areas of environment, arts, health, social justice, business, science and more.
